The Gala Honors the Education Attorneys Who Work With IDEAL Families
Accepting on their behalf are three attorneys who have worked with our families for many years, supporting a large number of students and aiding us in the development of our Zenith and Dylan programs.
Steven L. Goldstein provides representation and counsel to parents through the entire process: advocacy at Individual Education Plan (“IEP”) meetings and representation in Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (“IDEA”) impartial hearings and other education-related matters.
Mr. Goldstein lives on the West Side of Manhattan with his family. He earned an A.B. at the University of Chicago and a J.D. at Brooklyn Law School. He has engaged in litigation since 1996, and, since 2001, has exclusively dedicated his practice to special education law and advocacy.
Gary Mayerson, a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, is the founder of Mayerson & Associates, the first law firm in the nation dedicated to the representation of individuals diagnosed with autism and related disorders. To date, Mr. Mayerson and his firm have helped more than 1200 families in 35 states, including many of our IDEAL School families. Mr. Mayerson is the author of two books, Autism’s Declaration of Independence (2020) and How To Compromise With Your School District Without Compromising Your Child (2004).
Tracey Spencer Walsh is the founder and chief litigation strategist of Spencer Walsh Law, PLLC. Over her last 25 years in the legal industry, Ms. Spencer Walsh has learned the litigation ropes in New York City “big law” law firms, honed her skills, and found success in federal courts litigating IDEA cases in her own practice; assisting families with special needs children to get the education they need and deserve. Her passion for special education law stems from her own personal connection to the field, having family members with autism and ADHD. Ms. Spencer Walsh has dedicated her career to sharpening her vast expertise and successfully representing hundreds of families with children with autism, ADHD, mental health challenges, and a variety of learning disabilities. For her, there is nothing better than making a difference in a child’s life and helping families in need.
Ms. Spencer Walsh is excited to announce the recent launch of her new podcast “It’s Special,” geared toward families with special needs children and professionals in the industry. Her podcast is an informative and thoughtful blend of real-world insight, advice, and anecdotes from the top leaders and experts in the world of special needs issues. The goal for "It’s Special" is to provide families everywhere with important, relevant, and supportive information. Her entire career as a Special Education Law Attorney has led up to this moment.
Ms. Spencer Walsh’s passion for law has extended into teaching. She has served as an adjunct law professor at Fordham University School of Law (her alma mater) and designed the first special education law course. She was recently the first woman inducted to the membership of The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. Ms. Spencer Walsh is licensed in New York and Connecticut and has represented clients pro hac vice in other states.
