College and Postsecondary Counseling Timeline

Grade 9

• Students with IEPs need updated evaluations to access SAT testing accommodations

Grade 12

• Attend weekly small group and individual sessions with the counselor to complete applications, revise essays, collect recommendations, and meet deadlines

Grades 10 and 11

• Take PSAT (optional)

Grade 12

• Attend weekly small group and individual sessions with the counselor to complete applications, revise essays, collect recommendations, and meet deadlines
• Take SAT (optional)
• Families attend a group meeting to review deadlines and begin meeting individually with the counselor (September-October)
• Complete FAFSA (October)
• Complete applications, Common App, Early Decision I & II (November-January)

Grade 9

• Grade 9-10 Intro to the College and Postsecondary Process, online with families and students (February)

Grade 10

• Take the optional SAT prep class (January)
• Grade 9-10 Intro to the College and Postsecondary Process, online with families and students (February)

Grade 11

• Take the optional SAT prep class (January)
• Students and families attend the Grade 11 College and/or Postsecondary Program Info Session (February)

Grade 9

• Students and families attend their first individual college and postsecondary meetings

Grade 10

• Students and families attend individual College and Postsecondary Counseling meetings

Grade 11

• Attend weekly College and Postsecondary Counseling class

Grades 9-11

• Families and students attend the College Representative Panel and/or Postsecondary Program Representative Panel online

Grade 10

• Take the optional PSAT

Grade 11

• Take the optional PSAT or SAT

• Students continue working on essays, visiting programs, and gaining experience through activities, jobs, or volunteering
