The Billion Oyster Project

Seventh graders on Friday launched their participation in the Billion Oyster Project, whose mission is “restoring oyster reefs to NY Harbor through public education initiatives.” IDEAL’s new Middle School science teacher, Braeden Dimitroff, worked with the organization to master their curriculum over the summer. This week, the students used their new calipers to measure oyster shell sizes and discussed how to use their data to determine an accurate average size in preparation for the live oyster tank coming next month. Photos of the students’ work are in this Facebook album.
