ArtBeat

student artwork shows a silhouetted figure with words and drawings inside on a rainbow background

On Friday, April 29, our annual ArtBeat showcased a year of student work in the visual and performing arts. Lower School families, following an introduction by Mr. Lomas and students, viewed artwork throughout the building, while Upper School opened a gallery and stage in the gym. Upper School ArtBeat opened with a performance from our High School jazz band and a keynote speech from Heidi Latsky of Heidi Latsky Dance. There were also performances by the Middle and High School bands and by the cast of Matilda

Students, faculty, and families experienced Solo Flight, an installation by Heidi Latsky Dance comprised of movement portraits with sound viewed with virtual reality goggles as holograms. Three dancers of differing abilities were captured in motion and described their experiences navigating the world. Solo Flight was made possible by a donation from the Alson-Milkman and Thomas family. While students viewed the exhibit, the school bands improvised and tried out new songs for the students. First and fifth grade students also visited ArtBeat at Upper School.
