Welcome
IDEAL is New York City’s only independent inclusion school.
We serve students from kindergarten through Grade 12 and students from 18 to 21 years old in our Next Steps Transition Program. IDEAL is rare as an independent school that expands the definition of diversity to include academic ability.
The question I hear most often from prospective families is this: With so many great schools – public, charter, and independent, in the city – how will inclusion make a difference for my child?
The simple answer: At IDEAL, your child will be truly seen, heard, and valued. They’ll have friends, grow as a leader, and leave prepared — academically, socially, and emotionally — for whatever comes next.
The longer answer: Inclusion is at the core of everything we do at IDEAL. Small classes and a focus on discussion and discovery help students learn from one another. Our curriculum celebrates identity and diversity, while programs like life skills, community time, and a strong arts focus build confidence, connection, and creativity.
Our team of educators and specialists work closely with each student — challenging them, supporting them, and helping them grow. Students also build real-world skills through hands-on learning and develop social-emotional strengths along the way.
IDEAL students thrive—and it shows. Since our first graduating class in 2018, our alumni have been accepted to a wide range of colleges and programs. But more importantly, they leave IDEAL as confident, thoughtful people who know their strengths and know how to make a difference.
Come visit and see how IDEAL can bring out the best in your child.
Sincerely,
Janet Wolfe
