Curriculum

Programs and instruction at The IDEAL School reflect our beliefs about how children learn. Our rigorous core curriculum utilizes an integrative approach where skills and content are organized around key themes of Self, Community, and World. Through differentiated instruction, students pursue the same curriculum at multiple levels of complexity with specific objectives, working toward realistic educational outcomes based on high standards.
IDEAL’s anti-bias and multicultural values are woven into the fabric of our curriculum and school. We support each student’s positive identity and attitude development by directly addressing the impact of stereotyping, bias, and discriminatory behavior, encouraging cooperative learning, and teaching conflict resolution. An inclusive education provides students with an excellent academic foundation and empowers them to succeed in a truly diverse society with self-confidence, acceptance, and compassion.
Collaborative team teaching allows flexibility in instruction, low student-to-teacher ratios, and comprehensive observation and assessment. Teachers facilitate growth through hands-on activities, discussions, research, and cross-curricular connections, providing students with multiple avenues for building new knowledge. Partnerships with New York City outreach programs and cultural institutions extend our classroom and create a vibrant curriculum that is integrated throughout all disciplines.
Through IDEAL’s challenging, content-rich curriculum and innovative teaching frameworks, students build the repertoire of knowledge and skills they need to become lifelong learners.
