Assessment

Differentiated instruction begins with assessment and our co-teachers, with their different backgrounds and areas of expertise, work together and observe each student on an ongoing basis to determine how they are progressing, assessing areas of strength and difficulty, and determining alternative learning approaches. This assessment provides the basis for the student's Individual Learning Profile (ILP), which chronicles the student's achievement of academic goals, outlines objectives for each school year, and serves as a guide for the child's team. Included in a student's ILP is a portfolio of the student's work, individualized curriculum maps for each subject area, progress reports, and a Carryover Goal Matrix for Speech and Language and/or Occupational therapy if applicable. Based on these learning profiles, teachers personalize lesson plans and help students to set educational goals that will maximize their individual learning as well as encourage collaboration with peers. Ongoing assessment is built into the curriculum and ILP goals are updated throughout the year.
